Medicine Has Made Me Guttural

Benzodiazepines and Barbituates have very similar mechanisms as drugs - even, arguably, similar uses...but there is one difference in the mechanisms of the two drugs.

Benzodiazepines - Increase FREQUENCY of Chloride channel openings.

Barbituates - Increase DURATION of Chloride channel openings.

How can one stressed out, over-extended medical student be expected to remember a seemingly minute detail (one might even argue it to be minutia)? It really is quite simple: make it as dirty as possible!

Ben likes increased frequency...

Barb likes increased duration...

let me know if you don't get it.

Dana-
I don't think I get it, could you please explain? in detail?

At least you weren't guttural before you started medical school. Some of us have been that way since we could first speak.

Dude, you don't even want to know what the chorda tympani and vagina have in common!

Dana- I got this exact question on a practice test today. Thanks!

Can we review stomach hormones next?

my pneumonics for stomach hormones is a little over the top - especially for a public blog. It may need to be discussed in private. (wink wink)...oops there I go again! Blasted Medical School!

Dana- Sounds exciting, your place or mine (wink wink nudge nudge). While were at it, do you have anything for kidney path?

I do know a blog where you can swear all you want, it's actually a requirement.

P.S. nice usage of 'blasted'
