Message of Hate.

Where are the conservative pundits now? Are they reviling this sort of hate? Have they stated, "we disagree with Obama's political policies but we do not support hate." I haven't seen it. This is a representation of the dangerous hate and height of anger that has taken over the right, this last nine months. Dangerous.

I wish that there were somebody "conservative" on television that I could relate to. Beck, Limbaugh, et. al. do not represent my views in large part, and yet those are the public face of conservatism right now. We need a new voice.

I think you're being unfair. I don't condone the message in the picture (assuming it is the Nazi version, and not the original symbol before Nazi adoption), but I don't believe I ever heard anyone in the liberal media defend Bush from hate attacks. Doesn't mean there aren't some that didn't, just that I didn't hear them, probably because they weren't the loudest voices, and I tend not to listen to them much anyway (nor do I listen to the conservatives.)

Matt, can you give me an example of this kind of hate demonstrated towards Bush? Because, youre right, I didn't hear them. I have two friends in Toronto, American, who were so disgusted with the second term elections that they moved. Do you think that the anger and hatred are in fact, more penetrating now?

You seriously never saw the hate directed at Pres. Bush during his 8 years in office?

Just Google "George Bush Hitler" or "George Bush terrorist" and take a look at all the images there.

What about the numerous times that liberal bloggers called Pres. Bush a terrorist and protesters held signs advocating his assassination? (Some images: http://michellemalkin.com/2008/06/04/assassination-fascination/)

And those are just the first examples that popped into my head. That list is by no means exhaustive.

OF COURSE conservatives are disgusted by the picture you showed. But I'm equally disgusted by all the photoshopped pictures of Pres. Bush as Hitler. And I didn't hear liberal pundits condemning those.

Many of those on the right (myself included) are upset about the direction Obama, Pelosi and Reid have taken this country in the last 9 months. But that same level of anger and outrage absolutely existed the previous 8 years - only, it was on the left, and directed at Pres. Bush.

I don't think anger and hatred have increased in the last 9 months. I think you're just naturally more sensitive to it, now that it's your side that is on the receiving end.

Likewise, I naturally was sensitive to and noticed the vile, disgusting things the left said about Pres. Bush during his 8 years in office.

Oh...and Hi Dana! It's been a long time. :)

Yep - I agree with Alicia. Couldn't have said it better myself. If the anger and hatred are more personal now, it's because the politics are more personal now. While war in Iraq affected a lot of people, both directly and indirectly, unemployment, health care reform, cap and trade and taxes affect everyone personally, and money is tighter than it was before housing prices fell.

That photo isn't a very compelling "representation of the dangerous hate and height of anger that has taken over the right." George Will and C. Krauthammer aren't out carving swastikas on their lawns. Yes, they offer up scathing commentary on the president and his administration. But that type of discourse has been part of the political landscape in this country for two centuries -- and there certainly was no hiatus or moderation during the Bush years.

The image you posted speaks for itself to people of all political persuasions. Ok, some idiot wrote something dumb in his cornfield. Do conservatives really need Rush Limbaugh to tell them that's wrong? Really?

In reality, even the cornfield message is part of the exchange of ideas. But it's the type of idea that generally gets the amount of attention it deserves, which is pretty close to zero.
